Debbie Smethers was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Please keep Debbie and Mike in your prayers!

I got the note below from her letting us know what's going on with treatment, etc.

Surgery is next Friday.  I am having a double mastectomy and they will start the reconstruction surgery process as the same time.  They think that we caught it at stage 1 so there may not be a need or benefit for chemo or hormone drugs as mine is hormone negative.

I am not keeping it secret.  What the heck, every time you mention it, seems as though it has touched someone's immediate family member.  Thanks for the prayers.

I am doing really good.  I find humor in as much as I can, I know staying positive is a good thing.............. I even went and got my hair cut fairly short for me.

Debbie Smethers

Update: Debbie is Cancer Free!!!

Update:

Hello, I’m finally moved home.  I’m getting better but still feel bad a lot of the time.  My eyes cross pretty bad, but I still can see somewhat.  My leg is doing great now.  Finally since the doctor went in and removed the screw at the top of the pin in my leg.  The stupid pin was starting to go through my leg and it was hurting.  They kept making me do leg lifts in therapy exercise class, even though I kept telling them that it was hurting.  Finally, the guy who made the scheduling looked at my leg and called my husband and made him make me an appointment at the surgeons office.  Well, finally had surgery again and the screw roved.  Doing much better. I probably will never have a bike again if I leave it up to my hubby, but we will see.

Thanks for checking on me.  I finally read the guest  book on the site and am trying to get in touch with all that left notes. Thanks bunches.  I’m living at home if anyone would like to call or come by and see me.  I love visitors.  816-537-0033   310 5th Ave S Greenwood, MO 64034

Thanks Again, Toto (Debbi Allen)

There was a multitude of people at the visitation.  It was kind of overwhelming!  Mike is doing pretty well considering everything he has been through the past few days.  I gave Mike the excess money we raised with the flower fund

The poker run that was being planned has been canceled as Mike doesn't want that, at least not at this time.  We must respect his wishes!  There was a huge turnout for the Memorial BBQ on the 30th at Beer Thirty.  Thanks to everyone who helped pull that together, to everyone who prepared and brought food, and thanks to the Cooks for preparing the meat.  It was delicious!
Most of all, thanks to Mike for letting us do this so everyone could have a chance to talk to him and offer their sympathy.

I love you all!! Spike

Please keep Mike, Anita's kids, and her family in your thoughts and prayers!!!!!

JESSICA'S RIDE

My mom and the Kansas Biker’s Emergency Fund (KBEF) put on a poker run for me over the weekend. The proceeds from this fun run were split up between the KBEF and me. This run was to honor me for all I’ve done in supporting a cure for breast cancer over the past few years. I told my mom that all I did was walk many miles, and that she had worked much harder than me putting on Spike’s Cancer Run the past three years, but she insisted they do this for me anyways. J It was a very kind gesture, and there was an awesome turn out!!! It was a beautiful day, and I actually got to ride with Jimmy on his new bike!!! This was the first time we’ve been able to ride together on an event like this. We rode from Gringo’s in Olathe to the Eagles club in Paola, then on to the Sandbar in Ottawa, next was Puckett’s in Baldwin, and lastly we headed to the Jobsite in Olathe. The Jobsite had a band and food. I think everyone had a great time---I know I did!! At the end of the run, Jeff Lewis, owner of the Jobsite and treasurer of the KBEF presented me with a gift of $400!!!! Wow, I really appreciated the money, but even more touching was the number of people that came out to support me during this time. Jimmy and I are taking some vacation time at the end of September, so the money will come in handy for that. We haven’t decided where we are headed yet, but we may take a road trip in the truck and take the bike with us---we’ll see……….

Hope you all have a great week!!!!

Jessica
